Forgotten Alabama In-Person
Glenn Wills has a gift for finding beauty in abandoned houses and derelict buildings across the state of Alabama. He grew up in Huntsville and graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. After a few stops along the way, he found a career in television news shooting stories. He started at the CBS station in Huntsville and would make his way to Birmingham at both WBRC and WVTM. He then moved up from being a news photographer to the assignment desk. Eventually, he migrated to becoming a satellite truck engineer. This meant being on the road a great deal and he started to see an Alabama he never knew existed. This was also when he started to notice the forgotten remnants of Alabama history - those physical vestiges of life as it used to be. He realized that one day, all these places would be gone. This would lead him to start what would become Forgotten Alabama. He started a Facebook group about the subject which has grown to 311k members. Glenn has also published four books with a fifth due out in spring 2025. His goal is to continue documenting these ruins and preserving these memories as long as he is able. History buffs and photography enthusiasts alike will enjoy a presentation and discussion of Glenn’s photos. Refreshments will be served. Program will take place in the Nan Abbott Room.
